How do you reset a Netgear Wireless Router? Whether you do it yourself or will you take the device to service centre? Generally, resetting any wireless router won’t even take a minute except to wait for the signal from the device. Ofcourse yes, the process won’t brick the router. There are many reasons to perform a factory reset of Netgear Router like unable to retrieve forgotten password, problems with internet connectivity, WiFi issues etc. We here explaining the procedure by taking N600 and N300 routers as a reference. You can do the same steps to any device to reset the settings of Netgear Routers.
There are two steps to factory reset the Netgear Router. One from the hardware button held below the wireless router and the other method is from the dashboard or admin panel. Second method is somewhat difficult because it needs to be authorized by the user which is the main reason to perform the factory reset.
Reset Netgear Router Settings
Note: By performing a factory reset, all the settings like SSID name, Wifi security key and other data will be erased. The device will come to the state when you bought it. No issue, you can configure Netgear Router later after performing factory reset.
Here are the two different methods to reset Netgear Wireless Router to default settings.
Method 1 via Hardware Reset button
Turn your device on and find the reset key or button to the back of the router. You can see the image below.
Take a pen or toothpic then press the Restore Factory Settings key for about 10 seconds until all the lights will flash down to red.
Now release the reset button and login to admin panel after the lights goes green with default routerlogin details.
Method 2 via Admin Panel
In case if the router behaves weird and having access to admin console, do proceed with this step. It requires client login credentials to restore Netgear Router factory settings.
Open admin console of the device by typing routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1
Enter the default login details to access the settings
Now move to “Maintenance” tab then select “Backup Settings”
Here select “Erase” and confirm it by pressing “Yes”
Wait for few minutes as the router will reset all the settings and the lights will go red then green indicating that the process is completed.
